There is nothing quite as decadent and versatile as a Classic French Jacket.
I have been making LFJ’s and skirts for clients for over fifteen years, and they remain one of my favorite things to custom sew.
In 2013 I posted a sew along on my blog A Challenging Sew and it has been viewed by millions, and continues to be a highly visited post.
With that in mind, four years ago, I sought to create a new kind of workshop. Keeping each class small and intimate and providing everything, so you can literally walk through the studio door on the first day and begin.
Your first jacket is all about demystifying the process, while offering lots of one on one instruction. Giving you the confidence to go home and tackle that crazy gorgeous French boucle fabric you’ve stashed for years!!
Needless to say, I have had a lot of fun curating beautiful , easy to work with fabrics from Linton Tweeds in England (supplier to Chanel) and the United States. Designer deadstock, European novelties, solids, multi, shiny, and plain……something to suit every taste and lifestyle.
THE CLASS
We will all be using patterns that I have drafted and designed for this class. There are four to choose from:
1) A classic shape, three piece sleeve and a slightly boxy look for an easier to wear fit.
2) A more open cardigan style, same three piece sleeve.
3) The classic with a twist, collar stand and three piece sleeve.
Each will have a choice of boucle, and details can be added or subtracted.
Each registered student will be contacted for their jacket choice and measurements approximately 30 days before class, so that I can prepare a muslin for them. This cuts down on a day of fitting, giving us more time for actual sewing.
We have a lot to accomplish in six days. We will work side by side throughout each stage; helping each other as we chat, the goal is for everyone to walk out the door with a wearable jacket.
And for visual reference, there are numerous samples of each stage available in the studio, while I also make a jacket alongside you for demonstration purposes.
